Happy summer to you all!

Here’s a little update on the Mosquito situation this year in Box Elder County.  Due to an extremely mild winter and favorable circumstances this spring and summer for mosquitoes, the Culex species, which species transmits the West Nile Virus (WNV) is thriving.

The Box Elder Mosquito Abatement District (BEMAD), has been and will continue to be aggressive in their efforts to reduce the Culex population and lower the overall risk of WNV.

We as residences can also help reduce the risk of all mosquitoes, including Culex, by following the “5 Ds”:

Drain: Remove standing water from around homes or workplaces where mosquitoes can breed.

Dawn and Dusk: Limit outdoor activities when mosquitoes are most active.

DEET: Apply an EPA approved insect repellent containing a recommended active ingredient.

Dress: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting long sleeves, and long pants when spending time outdoors.

Door: Keep doors and windows screened and repair holes to prevent mosquitoes from entering.

Thank you for reading this message, we still have a bit of summer remaining and your help is appreciated!

AMERICA WALK/250 TOWN OF MANTUA

Walk250 Utah challenges every Utahn and everyone from Mantua to complete 250 Miles of outdoor exercise between now to December 31st to honor our nation’s 250th anniversary. While we say “walk”, you can bike, run, dance, play pickle ball, do yoga, etc. We have some conversion charts to help calculate your progress. There are also routes you can walk to discover Mantua. If you sign up, the state will track your progress through the end of July. For August 1- December 31, 2026, you keep track of your progress. We will have a completion certificate at the conclusion of the challenge, and all the names will be collected for a drawing. The REAL prize is doing this together. The power of Utah’s landscape offers a unique lend through which we can view the past, be jumping off points for adventure, and foster learning about what we call home. While celebrating the outdoors, Mantua can take time to examine our history. Here are some routes you can choose from. Take a picture of the route you are on!

Our American flags flown in Mantua are in much need of replacing. Donations are needed to repair and purchase flags to be flown in town. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
